Friday was an important day for the aerospace industry in Germany. Contracts for the National FCAS Initiatives were signed by Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik u. Nutzung der Bundeswehr BAAINBw, Airbus Defence and Space, German FCMS GbR, and MBDA Deutschland, paving the way for research and development of the next-generation aerial systems. And DMI is tasked to develop crucial elements of it.

About the FCAS initiative
The FCAS (Future Combat Air System) Initiative aims to develop an integrated system-of-systems of advanced aerial platforms, including a new generation combat aircraft and unmanned drones. These platforms will be interconnected through a sophisticated data cloud, ensuring coordinated operations across air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace domains.
The national research and technology projects that have been kicked-off run in parallel with the tri-national NGWS program involving Germany, France, and Spain. The goal is to develop and demonstrate complementary foundational technologies and functionalities for the interconnected deployment of NGWS by 2040.
DMI’s Role: at the heart of the FCAS software stack
DMI is proud to be part of the project consortium alongside over 30 companies that are at the forefront of industry and research in the eight R&D fields for FCAS. DMI’s contributions span across the following three areas:
AI Backbone – A foundational element ensuring data management and integration for AI training.
Mission Planning – managing and replanning the aerial systems’ missions for precise coordinated operations in complex environments.
HMI (Human-Machine-Interface) – Creating the interfaces and assistance systems of the future that enable the best human-machine-teaming.
With our special expertise in complex interfaces, AI automation, aerospace certification, and software development DMI will make key contributions to the FCAS program and help to integrate the different fields of mission automation, Human Factors and simulation
